Letterbox video
Letterbox video is the image on screen displayed as if you were in a cinema. The image is a lot wider than it is tall.
LNB
Often mentioned regarding satellite systems, it means Low Noise Blocker. The LNB is mounted in the dish and converts the signal from the orbiting satellite to a lower frequency your receiver can understand.
Luminance
Luminance is the brightness or could be described as the black & white scale of color video.
MHz
Stands for Megahertz (1 million hertz), this is the frequency range video is transmitted at.
MPEG
Mpeg stands for Moving Picture Experts Group and is the name used for video compression formats. Mpeg2 for example is the standard used for DVD and digital TV.
NTSC
NTSC : National Television System Committee. This is the format used in the USA.
PAL
Phase Alternate Line is the European standard broadcast format
Pixel
Pixel is an abbreviated term for Picture Cell which is the smallest set of RGB to which make the picture.

UHF connection
Also known as the "TV coax" plug, traditionally used to carry signals from an aerial to your TV or video receiver.
RGB
Simply RED, GREEN and BLUE signals, these primary colours are used create a colour picture.
Scart connection
Scart actually stands for Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs, it is also known as a Euro connector and is used for the best quality link between separate AV devices.
A common misconception is that all scart devices are RGB, this is not true as composite video is also used although the quality of both are considerably higher than traditional coax connections.
Screen Burn
Screen burn is when damage occurs to the phosphor coating in the screen. It has not been a major problem with traditional Cathod ray tube TVs, but Rear projection and Plasma TVs combined with modern menu blocks on screen can be an issue. If you leave your screen switched on to receive digital radio for example, at the bottom of the screen is a text block informing you which station you are listening to. Over time, this text block will be etched into the Phosphor in the screen.
